Taking a step closer to the future, Chinese scientists have successfully cloned monkeys. Zhong Zhong and Zua Zua are two identical long-tailed macaques created by scientists at Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Neuroscience in Shanghai, from a non-embryonic cell. These two are the first primates ever to be cloned. They were cloned using the same technique used to clone Dolly the sheep and could hold the key to cloning humans. Though successful at cloning the monkeys, it took the scientists around 79 attempts to finally get it right. This discovery will be used to create more monkeys for research purposes. Meanwhile, Zhong Zhong and Zua Zua are being bottle fed and are growing normally.
Although not anytime soon, human cloning is now closer than ever.
